Overview

The eGFR calculator calculates a patient’s estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate from a blood test and is used to assess kidney function.

Usage

The calculator is used in Health Checks and may be accessed from the action menu outside of Health Checks.

The eGFR calculator is only valid for patients who are 18 years or older.

It isn’t validated for some conditions:

  • Pregnancy

  • Gross oedema

  • Muscle wasting

  • Malnourishment

  • Amputation

Technical Specification

Normal GFR varies according to age, sex, and body size, and declines with age. The calculator uses the CKD-EPI Creatinine Equation (2021) to estimate GFR.

Mandatory Items

  • Patient’s Age

  • Sex

  • Serum Creatinine

Ethnicity is an optional input as Black ethnicity alters the results.
