Overview

The Kidney Cancer calculator uses the Kidney Cancer eRAT to determine a patient’s risk of having Kidney cancer based on the most recent data received from the clinical system for that patient and additional data that may be added by the user.

Usage

The Kidney cancer calculator is designed to be used by a clinician to calculate a patient’s risk score of Kidney cancer.

Technical Specification

Mandatory Items

  • The patient must be aged 60 or over.

  • An MVC reading and a Platelet Count must be supplied, and must be greater than 0.

  • All other symptoms are optional, and assumed to not exist if not supplied.

Inferred Items

  • Raised inflammatory markers are inferred if the patient has an erythrocyte sedimentation rate of at least 12.0mm/h, or a serum C-reactive protein of at least 10.0mg/L, or a plasma viscosity of at least 1.72cP. If none of these values have been supplied then raised inflammatory markers is not inferred.

  • Raised platelets is inferred if the patient has a platelet count > 400.

  • Microcytosis is inferred if the patient has a mean corpuscular volume (MCV) of less than 80fL.

Risk Scoring

  • A risk greater than 5% is considered very high.

  • A risk score of between 2% and 5% is considered high.

  • A score of 2% and below is considered low.
