What Is A Solution

Overview

A solution is a collection of tools that display information on a particular theme. The root source of the data is patient records transmitted from the clinical system used by the practice or practices that are part of the commissioning organisation. The exact type of information that you will see is dependant on the users organisation. CCG’s and Public Health Departments will only see aggregated data however practices will see patient level information as well.

Dashboards

A dashboard can be a table or graph that displays information about groups of patients. They can display trends, percentage achieved of a target or other numerical comparisons.

Cohorts

A cohort at it’s simplest is a list of patients. The rules for which patients are included in the cohort are defined by Informatica. Cohorts can be sorted or filtered to refine the list to suit the user.

Calculators

The calculators available are dependant on the solutions available to the user. Calculators can be launched from the action menu and if a patient in a cohort is selected at the time then the most recent data held on the patient will be used to pre-populate the fields in the calculator. The data can then be updated as needed and when the calculator is run the updated data and the result produced by the calculator may be saved to the patient’s record.

Use with a Clinical System

A user in a practice will have access to the desktop app for Skyline. When the Skyline desktop connector is running the system will produce a ‘floating pop up window’ containing cues when a patient’s notes are viewed in the clinical system. Cues can contain a variety of information and advice e.g. "This patient is eligible for a Flu vaccination" or "This patient should have a cholesterol test". Cues are interactive and clicking on a cue will give the user additional information and the option, where relevant, to add a clinical code to the patient’s notes.
